WILLEMSTAD – During a parliamentary session in Curaçao, PAR parliamentarian Ana Maria Paulette highlighted the importance of using a recent amendment to the Dutch passport law as an opportunity to address broader issues affecting Curaçaoan citizens.
According to Paulette, the proposal to separate the Dutch identity card from the passport law presents an opportunity to tackle structural problems within the Kingdom Law that are putting pressure on the autonomy and rights of Curaçao.
Paulette pointed out instances where citizens, despite residing in Curaçao for extended periods, are treated as non-residents and lose their right to a passport. She called for equal treatment of Curaçaoan citizens within the Kingdom and urged for action to address the democratic deficit.
