
According to TMZ, Stone died in a car accident after a concert in Montgomery, Alabama, on Saturday morning. It had been scheduled to act in Baltimore later that day.
Stone succeeded for the first time as a member of the Sugar Hill Records The Sequence Hip-Hop trio, which obtained a success with “Funk You Up.” The song was later sampling by Bruno Mars in “Uptown Funk.”
After signing with Records Arista, Stone launched his solo debut album, Black Diamond, in 1999. The LP achieved the golden status, thanks in part to his simple number 1, “No More Rain (In This Cloud)”. His second album, 2001’Smahogany Soul, launched by J Records by Clive Davis, had collaborations with Raphael Saadiq, Swizz Beatz, Alicia Keys and Eve. Mahogany Soul reached number 4 on the R& B/Hip-Hop album list of the US, with his single, “Wish I Didn’t Miss You”, becoming the largest commercial single in Stone. The album also took his first Grammy, since the song “More than Woman” was nominated for the best performance of a duo or group with voice.
Stone continued to throw music consistently during the last two decades, achieving varying degrees of commercial success. His most recent album, Love Language, arrived in 2023.
