To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Chinese nuclear test, the Center for Cold War International History Studies of East China Normal University held an international workshop on “China’s first bomb and international responses” on October 22 in Beijing, supported by the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project and the Association for History of the Two Bombs and One Satellite. Scholars from China, Japan, India, United States, and Taiwan presented reports on Chinese nuclear policy after the test, the responses from China’s neighbors and powers, and the impact on their nuclear policies. Participants also shared and commented on considerable amounts of new documents on the subject. The Cold War Center plans to collect, translate and publish those documents as possible.
