ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Presented as an event to jumpstart Christmas in the Virgin Islands, Christmas in the City is returning for yet another year according to Mrs Janice E.L. Brathwaite-Edwards of the City Manager’s Office, this time on Shoreway Drive outside of One Stop Mall, Road Town, Tortola.
“We’ve come from Christmas on Main Street; we have gone to Christmas on deCastro Street. We’ve also done Christmas at Central Administration Drive and now we’re doing Christmas in the City on Shoreway Drive,” she said.
Ms Brathwaite Edwards was at the time speaking to Umoja Guest Host, Shania M. Smith-Archer on November 27, 2023, on the plans for this year’s Christmas in the Street event set for December 1 and 2, 2023.
This year also marks the 25th celebration of the event this year and the recognition of the 4 founders of the events on Main Steet, namely Mrs. Courtney Harrigan, Mrs Marlin Penn-Trotman, Mr Cromwell Smith aka ‘Edjuenka’ along with the Late Hon Delores Christopher.
Persons to be honored
The event will also honor Mr. Keith “Candy Man” Fahie and showcase several small businesses including those with handmade items, food, and more as is the custom yearly in the VI for the street event.
For persons looking to find the venue, Mrs Brathwaite-Edwards said, “There seems to be some kind of confusion with people not sure where Sureway Drive is. Shoreway Drive is the street that flows directly in front of One Stop Mall, this is going to be its third year at Shoreway Drive,” she said.
Mrs Brathwaite-Edwards added that the event is also looking to have participation from youths and schools in a ‘Grand’ Explosion including singing, fungi, and steelpan music.
Entertainment will continue with more music in addition to several vendors who will be outside with local items on sale.
