WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Police Force has received additional equipment to strengthen its law enforcement capabilities. During a formal ceremony yesterday, the police officially put six new quads into service. These all-terrain vehicles will facilitate patrols in difficult-to-reach areas, improving response times and operational efficiency.
In addition to the quads, the force has been equipped with drones for aerial surveillance. These drones will assist in monitoring large crowds, tracking suspects, and enhancing overall security measures. Various police departments have also received upgraded equipment to modernize their operations.
A significant development in the police’s strategy to bolster public safety is the upcoming installation of 43 surveillance cameras at key locations across Curaçao. These cameras aim to improve oversight and crime prevention by providing real-time monitoring and evidence collection.
The police’s Bike Team is also set for an upgrade with the introduction of modern bicycles. However, due to logistical delays, the new bicycles did not arrive in time for the recent carnival celebrations, where they would have been particularly useful for maneuvering through large crowds.
Beyond equipment upgrades, the Curaçao Police Force is also investing in human resources. Young recruits are being given opportunities to undergo police training, ensuring a steady influx of new personnel. Additionally, existing officers are being sent abroad for further professional development, equipping them with advanced skills and knowledge to better serve the community.
As part of its commitment to social initiatives, the police force also handed over a service vehicle to the Tim Sende Konsiente project. This program focuses on educating young people about the dangers of drugs, sexual health issues, weapons, and aggression. During the carnival festivities, the program plays an active role in raising awareness, with the newly received vehicle leading parades to deliver its important message.
