WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s newly elected parliament will hold its first session on May 11, as confirmed by a national decree recently published. The new parliament will consist of four political parties: MFK, PNP, PAR, and MAN-PIN.
This week, the political parties are coming together for an initial evaluation of the recent elections. Among the changes, the PAR party has lost two seats, with the top two candidates, Quincy Girigorie and Shaheen El Hage, no longer holding positions.
The representatives for the MAN-PIN party will include Giselle Mc William and Suzy Camelia-Römer. Meanwhile, the PNP party will maintain its four seats, with Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia, Ruisandro Cijntje, Ornelio ‘Kid’ Martina, and Sheldry Osepa leading the list.
The MFK party will see 13 of its candidates entering parliament: Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas, Javier Silvania, Charles Cooper, Charetti America-Francisca, Sithree van Heydoorn, Shalten Hato, Gilbert Doran, David Seferina, Fergino Brownbill, Juniel Carolina, Ramon Yung, Maria Nita, and Rigoletto Thodé. However, MFK will also need to appoint nine ministers, many of whom are expected to come from the list of parliamentary candidates, potentially pushing some to positions further down the list, possibly as low as number 22.
As the country navigates through this new parliamentary landscape, the political leaders are preparing to set the stage for what promises to be a pivotal period in Curaçao’s political development.
