ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Residents of the Virgin Islands have been alerted to a website mimicking the BVI Beacon and falsely reporting that the Virgin Islands Government is in the process of returning taxes and that people could receive up to $3000.00 per month.
The article also fabricated an interview between Premier Wheatley and Mr Ronn A. Grant on the subject of tax returns.
“This is a scam that appears to have stolen our masthead,” the Editor of BVI Beacon, Mr Freeman Rogers, told our news centre.
Fake News Alert!
The BVI Beacon also followed up with a ‘Fake News Alert’.
“A fake news website mimicking The BVI Beacon’s site is reporting false information about tax refunds. To be sure you’re on our website, check the web address, which should start with “https://”www.bvibeacon.com.” The fake news site is not affiliated with the Beacon,” the publication stated today, January 13, 2025.
Acting Director of Communications in the Office of the Premier Mrs Karia J. Christopher also confirmed that the article is fake.
“This is not correct,” Mrs Christoper said of the article about tax refunds.
