Kingston College (KC) and St Jago High School dominated the sprint hurdles at last weekend’s ninth S. W. Isaac-Henry Invitational meet at the National Stadium.
Daniel Clarke led the charge in Class One as KC swept all the sprint hurdle events in record times. Clarke clocked an impressive 13.60 seconds to win the 110 metres hurdles. His teammate Rayvon Walkins was second in 13.96 while Shakir Lewis of Jamaica College (JC) took third in 14.20.
KC’s Jonathan Clarke won the Class Two 110m hurdles in 13.78 ahead of Wolmer’s Boys’ Mark Daniel Allen (14.21) and JC’s Gregory Williams (14.29).
Raquen Dawkins added another win for KC in the Class Three 100m hurdles in 13.51. JC’s Perry Gianni (13.72) and Jhaiden Dawkins of KC (13.90) were second and third, respectively.
In the 400m hurdles, Jaedan Campbell of Excelsior High stole the show in Class One, winning in 54.95. JC secured a one-two finish in Class Two with Nathaniel Williams (54.60) edging teammate Francisco Williams (54.61), while KC’s Mickeel Williams was third in 54.84.
In the flat 400m, St Mary High’s Rasheed Grant set a meet record of 48.71 to win Class Two. In Class One, Jordan Fitzgerald of Papine High won in 48.04, narrowly beating Calabar High’s Junior Gallimore and Nickecoy Bramwell, who both clocked 48.25.
In the girls’ sprint hurdles St Jago’s top performer was Shanice Williams in the Class Four 70m hurdles. She set a meet record of 10.66 to finish ahead of Wolmer’s High School for Girls’ Odainna Creary (10.80) and her teammate Ashley Allen (11.23).
Adora Campbell was equally impressive in the Class Two 100m hurdles, winning in a meet record 13.87. Her teammate Nalayia Duncan was second (13.96), while Immaculate Conception High’s Kyra-Loye Kelly was third in 14.23.
Excelsior’s Amoi Kentish claimed the Class One 100m hurdles title in 14.21. St Jago’s Bryanna Davidson (14.38) was second while Excelsior’s Shelly-Ann Taylor, 14.52, was third.
Field events highlights
JC’s Joseph Salmon continued his dominance in the Class One discus, winning with a throw of 59.28m. St Catherine High’s Rajay Hemmings (51.73m) was second. In the Class One shot put, Calabar’s Kimari Kennedy set a meet record with 18.14m, while JC’s Michael Andre Edwards won the long jump with 7.19m.
Girls’ field events
Excelsior’s Najhada Seymoure threw 49.84m to win the Class One discus, ahead of St Catherine High’s Able Mills (46.34m) and Excelsior’s Gianna Clayton (43.93m). Mills later won the Class One shot put with a throw of 13.10m, with Excelsior’s Kimeka Smith (12.96m) and Clayton (12.30m) taking second and third, respectively.
