Local entertainer Yasheen Alexander, known by his stage name Young Star 6ixx, is scheduled to appear at the Pt Fortin Magistrates’ Court today after being charged with professing to be a gang member in order to promote a gang, according to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
The 23-year-old, from La Brea, was arrested on January 29, 2025, during ongoing State of Emergency operations.
“Officers of the South Western Division Gang Intelligence Unit conducted extensive inquiries into gang-related activities in the area. As part of the investigation, several video clips were obtained and analysed by the Cyber and Social Media Unit, leading to further inquiries,” the release stated.
Following a meeting with Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions South, Mrs. Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal, yesterday, advice was given to charge Alexander with the offence.
The TTPS said in addition to this as part of ongoing State of Emergency crime suppression efforts, two applications for Preventative Detention Orders (PDOs) were submitted and granted by the Minister of National Security.
“This resulted in the issuance of eight PDOs—one covering seven individuals and another pertaining to a single individual. These operations were supervised by DCP Intelligence and Investigations Suzette Martin,” it stated.
“The TTPS remains committed to dismantling gang networks and ensuring that individuals who engage in criminal activities, including the promotion of gang culture, are brought to justice. We continue to urge the public to report suspicious activity to the police via 999, 911, 555, 800-TIPS, or any police station,” it stated.
