An argument between two men late Friday night on New Providence resulted in one of the men being murdered, police said.
Chief Superintendent Michael Johnson said two men who attended a function on Carmichael Road got into a fight.
“The suspect hit the victim with an object and pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased several times to the neck,” Johnson said.
“He (victim) stumbled across the street where he collapsed at the rear of a building.”
Johnson said police arrested a 30-year-old man a short while later in connection with the murder.
The victim died at the scene.
This is the 11th murdered recorded for the year.
Johnson implored residents to resolve their conflicts instead of turning to violence.
He said police will be relentless in bringing people before the courts and protecting the community.
“The commissioner’s initiatives, the saturation patrol, we have been getting some good results,” he added.
“People have been arrested immediately after these incidents. Firearms have been recovered and that has assisted us in solving these matters pretty quickly and putting these people before the courts.
“We are resolved and we will continue in this fight and ensure that these people who commit these acts are quickly charged and brought before the courts.”
Johnson also encouraged parents to pay attention to their boys, noting that a lot of children are turning to gangs for protection.
He warned criminals to try and become more productive in society.
“If they (criminals) continue in their behavior there is only two places they will end up, either in jail or the grave,” he said.
“So we caution them to behave themselves.”
Many residents on New Providence are reeling from a burst of murders in the new year.
Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander said police are doing all they can but admitted that there are challenges.
He said there needs to be a review of the Bail Act and swifter resolution to cases.
He also said that police need to build more relationships in the community.
