HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 24 (ACN) The Network in Defense of Humanity (REDH) issued a call to world people to mobilize for peace, a call that has already been joined by prominent intellectuals from both Cuba and around the world.
The statement states: “What we feared has finally happened. To the genocide in Gaza Strip; to the targeted attacks and assassinations in other countries in the region; to the escalation of war against Iran; in short, to the criminal rampage of Israel; now, as a fateful imperial incursion, is added the bombing by the United States of three nuclear facilities in Iranian territory.”
“Arrogant and obscene,” the call continues, “President Trump boasts of the effectiveness of his army and the blow he has struck on the international stage. He seems to ignore that this spiral of violence could lead not to his desired Pax Americana, but to a true apocalypse.”
“We at REDH endorse the words of Cuban FM Bruno Rodriguez: ‘Peace through strengh is an imperialist doctrine that attempts to impose terror, arms, and global destabilization as a means to sustain the US’s hegemonic collapse.
It rests on the notion that those who possess force are right,'” emphasizes the text of the movement of thought and action made up of writers, artists, poets, scientists, academics, lawyers, teachers, economists, religious figures, athletes, students, and social movements.
With an immediate response, Cubans such as the president of Casa de las Americas, Abel Prieto Jimenez; the heroes of the Republic of Cuba, Antonio Guerrero Rodriguez and Fernando Gonzalez Llort; among other researchers, journalists, and political scientists; endorsed the call, which makes it clear that “fascism is the enemy of democracy and all civilized forms of human coexistence” and that “Trump and Netanyahu are its contemporary expressions.”
“In face of the alarming turn of events, we condemn the attacks that suggest an even greater escalation and call for the resumption of negotiations so that any disagreements can be resolved through dialogue, avoiding a confrontation with unforeseeable consequences,” continues the statement, which features prominent signatures such as Nobel Peace Prize winners Stella Calloni and Adolfo Perez Esquivel from Argentina; the Mexican-Argentine Fernando Buen Abad; Ignacio Ramonet; and Manu Pineda from Spain, among others.
“We call on the people of the world to mobilize for peace. Cease the warlike aggression against Iran and the occupation of Palestine,” the statement concluded.
