Boxer Saundre “Dash” Simmons will head home to Bermuda next month to face Jamaican opponent Ian Darby at the Victualling Yard in Dockyard.
Simmons, 27, extended his flawless professional record to 7-0 with another emphatic first-round stoppage – this time against American Tahlik Taylor in Concord, North Carolina, at the weekend.
The hard-hitting cruiserweight made his Bermuda debut in February, dispatching American Patrick Pierre in the first round at The Shed in Dockyard.
His upcoming bout will be on June 28.
Although he was born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, Simmons was raised in Somerset by his Bermudian parents before moving to Asheville, North Carolina, with his mother at age 12.
He said he has embraced the opportunity to reconnect with his Bermudian roots through boxing.
“I love the exposure to the island, and I’m enjoying bringing the boxing culture of the States, which is what I know, to Bermuda,” Simmons told Bernews.
“My last fight was in Dockyard, and I’m from Somerset, so it couldn’t have been more perfect. It was sentimental for me, coming home and showing my family what I do professionally.”
Before turning pro, Simmons built an impressive amateur résumé, finishing as runner-up at both the USA National Boxing Championships in Louisiana and the prestigious Golden Gloves of America tournament in Oklahoma in 2021.
