PROUD principal of the Signal Hill Secondary School Arianne D’Abreau-Forde was all smiles when the Express visited the school yesterday.
Why? Because acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin is a past student of the school and with yesterday being the 48th anniversary of the institution, it was a double celebration.
“I feel so privileged. I feel honoured, and coming from government schools it just shows that we are capable of producing all-round students also. So it is indeed a wonderful achievement,” D’Abreau-Forde said.
Benjamin graduated from the class of 1988 and, according to D’Abreau-Forde, his rise to the top came as no surprise.
“So in the ’80s we were able to produce several national icons such as Dwight Yorke, so it comes as no surprise that we have yet another icon from the class of ’88 and by large from the ’80s, and we continue to produce excellence and all of these achievements really serve as motivation for our current student body,” she added.
D’Abreau-Forde said students everywhere must be motivated to achieve, as the motto “Readiness is the Key” is plastered on the walls of the institution.
The principal said greatness in any child has no boundaries in the walls or hallways of any educational environment.
“I want to say that a star can shine anywhere once you are motivated and inspired to achieve. Once you are able to utilise the resources that are within your reach and within the environment of that school, you are capable of achieving any kind of success that you desire,” she said.
