The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has officially gone into election mode. Now, it’s time for the party to get its house in order, General Secretary Leo Clarke said recently.
“In my view, and I think it’s the view of our party, there are significant things that one ought to achieve in a country and not just be expedient as far as calling elections are concerned… I think there are some things… the Labour Party… would like to achieve,” Clarke told Choice News Now in an interview.
“One of the big ones which will happen in 2025 is the completion of St. Jude’s and… I don’t think that we could just keep kicking it down the road from one term to the other. I think the people of the country have had enough of this from political parties as far as the completion of St. Jude is concerned and… I think that it’s about to happen within a few months,” he said.

Clarke added that a party should not disregard the timing of an election “You… must not just be expedient, meaning, that there are some things that you owe the people of the country, things that you believe you ought to achieve for them, things you need to deliver to them before you take them back to the polls.”

He said while he is sure the prime minister has a timeframe, “He has not cared to share it with us yet, but it is important… when you are less than a year and a half from an election, you’re effectively into election mode so we have to begin getting our house in order for an election.”
