An Easter Sunday beach trip turned tragic when two visitors got into difficulty while bathing at San Souci Beach.
Sixteen-year-old Jakeem Phillip, a form three student of Carapichaima Secondary School, remains missing. Twenty-five-year-old Dillon Clarke of Calcutta Road, Freeport, was pulled from the water by villagers and surfers and rushed to the Toco Health Centre. He was later transferred to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the Surf Side Bar. A witness told officers that both Clarke and Phillip were seen calling for help after entering the water. Locals and a surfer attempted a rescue and managed to pull Clarke to shore. Despite attempts to resuscitate him with CPR, he was unresponsive.
Search efforts for the missing teenager began shortly after and involved members of the Coast Guard, police officers, surfers, and residents of San Souci. However, by nightfall, they had not located him. The search resumed this morning.
Investigations are ongoing.
