A regional political analyst has warned the embattled Member of Parliament for the town of St George, barrister-at-law Peter David to be careful in arriving at quick political decisions on his future in the country.
Speaking to THE NEW TODAY Tuesday, the political analyst who is based in the Eastern Caribbean suggested that David, who quit the New National Party (NNP) just over a week ago, should undertake a scientific poll in order to gauge the political temperature on the island.
“…I will tell him to get a poll done,” he said.
David was scheduled to hold a meeting Thursday night in the Queen’s Park area with constituents to discuss the current situation facing him politically.
According to the political analyst, David needs to get a pollster to undertake a big sample of persons in his constituency and also the other neighboring constituencies like South St George, St George South-east, and North-east with a smaller sample to get data in order to plan ahead.
He said that David, who was expelled from the Congress party in 2012 needs to know from the poll results how people see him in his own constituency as well as “what is happening in those constituencies around you.”
He added that the Town of St George MP should conduct a second poll in the other constituencies on the island to get scientific data “to give him a real good option” on the way forward for him politically in the country.
“That is what I will advise him,” he said.
The political analysts warned that in David’s anxiety to get back at the NNP and its veteran leader Keith Mitchell for what has been done to him since the last general election, he could make some blunders.
He felt that NNP is itself making serious political blunders and David needs to be strategic in plotting the way forward for himself in going forward to the next general election.
He said that one thing that is in David’s favor is that he is “likeable” and should not squander this aspect of his political career.
David resigned from the NNP in the face of several attacks launched on him by Keith Mitchell who was bitterly opposed to him becoming the new political boss of the party.
The political analyst does not see NNP making any serious political strides in Grenada under its new leader, former Education Minister Emmalin Pierre.
“Emmalin ain’t going nowhere,” he quipped.
He was also critical of the NNP’s new Public Relations Officer who on Tuesday accused the Congress administration of Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of engaging in victimisation of persons in the public service perceived to be opposed to his regime.
He recalled that under Keith Mitchell’s rule of the island spanning just over 25 years several top public officers considered to be the “top brains in the country” were victimised by him.
He called the names of former top officials in the Ministry of Finance such as Dr. Brian Francis, Nolan Murray, and Richard Duncan who were forced out of their jobs.
