Last Tuesday, February 25, Pope Francis signed the canonization of our José Gregorio Hernández, the doctor of the poor as he is known worldwide for Spanish -speaking. José Gregorio Hernández was born in Isnotú, Trujillo state, on October 26, 1919. The holiness of José Gregorio Hernández began in 1949, when the Archdiocese of Caracas submitted the application to the Vatican to be venerated. Years later, in 1972, the Vatican declared it “Servant of God”, the first step to be canonized. In 1986, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable (a person who lived a heroically virtuous life), being elevated to Blessed in 2021 by Pope Francis, assigning him on October 26 as the date of his liturgical celebration to finally be declared San José Gregorio Hernández. Only one step is missing: the Consistory of Cardinals (meeting of the Cardinal College that is convened by the Pope, whose objective is to help him in the Government of the Catholic Church, designate new cardinals or give solemnity to the decisions of the Pontiff) to establish the official date of the canonization.

In Venezuela, suffrage is a right. You decide whether you exercise it or not. But … why let others think for you. Why let others decide who will direct the reins of the town in which you live? Why echo those snipers who call both organizations for political purposes, as well as citizens to abstention? When Constitutional article 62 states that “all citizens have the right to participate freely in public affairs, directly or through their representatives…” is referring to the right to choose, through suffrage, whom you consider that he is the optimal person and capable of exercising a certain position within the public administration and which, through other mechanisms also established in the Constitution, you can request that you pay for accounts of the management.
Exercise your rights … attend to vote.
