Some 495,000 persons have received their $100,000 cash grant cheques as of last Friday, according to Finance Secretary Sukrishnalall Pasha.
During an interview with Stabroek News yesterday, Pasha provided an update on the initiative’s progress, highlighting that cheque printing and verification are still ongoing. “We are still printing cheques as we speak and verifying, so the number is always moving,” he said.
According to Pasha, while most regions have completed the bulk of their distributions, mop-up exercises are underway in Regions 1, 8, and 4, while Regions 7 and 9 will commence final distributions soon. “By mid-March, we expect to have completed over 95% of the distribution,” he stated, adding that Region 4, which accounts for the largest share of grants, is currently being prioritized.
