WILLEMSTAD – The Government of Curaçao has taken important steps this week regarding national legislation, with two significant proposals moving forward during the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Health Insurance Contribution and Deductible Adjustments
The Council discussed a draft national decree that outlines adjustments to the premiums, income thresholds, co-payments, and subsidies associated with the basic health insurance package. This proposal, submitted by the Minister of Finance on June 9, 2025, aims to update the financial structure of healthcare contributions to better align with current economic realities. The draft will now be reviewed by the Directorate of Legislation and Legal Affairs (WJZ) for further advice.
Pension Reform for Civil Servants
Also on the agenda was a proposal to amend the pension law for public sector employees. The proposed changes are part of a broader effort to modernize and sustain the civil servant pension system. The draft ordinance, also presented by the Minister of Finance on June 9, 2025, has been submitted to the WJZ for legal assessment.
These legislative initiatives are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Curaçao’s public policy framework and ensure long-term fiscal stability. Further details will be made public once the legal review process is complete.
