A cleaner said she was at work and a student came and told her that there was smoke and the children were immediately evacuated. It is unclear how the fire started. Teachers are currently on the Farnum Ground opposite the school.

One parent had just dropped off a Grade 6 child when she heard of the fire and according to her she raced back to the school and was in a panic when she could not locate her son.
Thankfully he was safe with his Grade Six teacher.
“It is sinking in that I could have lost my son,” the weeping parent said.
According to information reaching this newspaper the power supply to the school was fluctuating for the entire week.
According to sources, sparks were seen this morning coming from a utility pole in the vicinity of the school and efforts were made to contact the Guyana Power and Light to no avail.
