Gold trader Nazar Mohamed, who has been sanctioned by the US government for alleged under-declaration of taxes, yesterday charged that his family and businesses are being unfairly treated by the administration here through the non-issuance of mining and sea vessels licences.
In an attempt to clarify the broader issue of the US Magnitsky sanctions, which extend not only to him and his son but also to their companies, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Hadi’s World, and Team Mohamed’s Racing Team, he said “The sanction is about myself and my son and my companies not being able to do business with American citizens and American companies”.
Speaking on the Team Mohamed Facebook page, he said the sanctions do not prevent his family from engaging with local businesses or individuals. He responded to speculation that anyone affiliating with his family would be sanctioned as well. He said the sanctions were never about social interaction, noting that many people had taken photographs with his son Azruddin since the sanctions were imposed, yet none of these individuals were sanctioned by the US government.
