POCKWOOD POND, Tortola, VI- Many areas on Tortola are currently without power today, July 17, 2023.
According to the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC), this is due to “a major malfunction” on one of BVIEC’s interconnection switches at Pockwood Pond.
“At approximately 11:00 am we lost a significant amount of generation. As a result, a number of areas were affected. More information will be provided shortly,” BVIEC stated.
“Here, can’t even iron a shirt to run town, these people are ridiculous,” one resident of Sea Cows Bay told our newsroom.
It was on June 4, 2023, that various areas of the territory were without power for hours after the seawater system which supplies cooling water to 55% of the diesel generators at the Henry Wilfred ‘Freddie’ Smith Power Station at Pockwood Pond became compromised by Sargassum seaweed.
