Paramaribo – The first classic of the Surinamese football season between Robinhood and Transvaal ended in a draw on Sunday evening. In the Franklin Essed Stadium, the two largest folk clubs did not score: 0-0. Less was that Transvaal captain Dimitri Apai had to leave the fight after seven minutes due to an injury.
A lot of attention was paid to the Surinamese classic days before the competition. He was a repeat of the final of August 24, 2024 when Robinhood claimed the first title of the Suriname Major League by beating Transie 2-0. Transvaal wanted to revanch itself, while ‘Bin’ wanted to prevent it, just like last year in the regular season, was again held by Transvaal: 1-1 in the first round, 2-2 in the second round.
Attackers not on sharp
Both teams created good opportunities to decide the competition to their advantage. However, the attackers missed sharpness. On the other hand, the keepers Jonathan Fonkel (Robinhood) and Paolo Sousa Santos (Transvaal) were also in good ones.
The first chances were for Robinhood, but Garvey Kwelling and Ravello Zijler failed to finish them. The first chance of Transvaal was for Lalanie Toy after a good pass by Jerrel Wijks. His shot disappeared through the leg of Furgel Sedoc over the sidelines. He then put Fonkel back to the test, but the goalkeeper managed to process the free kick to corner.
On the other hand, it was again Zijler who almost scored, after he had turned transvaal defender Johan Lisse. From a difficult corner he placed the ball past Santos, but he crossed the back line through the post.
After the break, both teams did their best to return home with the three points. It was again Robinhood who was the first to become dangerous, but Zijler hit the pole. Then Fonkel showed his ability to use Tooy and Lisse. Both times the goalie of the red-greens had to keep the ball out of his goal with his fists. A few half chances fell after that, but the audience was remembered from goals.
