The Corporation of St. George’s highlights summer events, historical reflections, community updates, and local achievements in its June 2025 newsletter.
A spokesperson said, “The Corporation of St. George’s [CSG] gears up for summer with a festival, reflections on bravery, and a spotlight on history in the release of the June 2025 edition of the town newsletter.
“The CSG reminds all residents and businesses that our General Council Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 6:00 PM at Towne Hall. Held on the fourth Thursday of each month, it includes a public Q&A session where your voice matters. We encourage everyone to attend and participate in shaping our community’s future. The manhole project at York Street and Bridge Street is now complete. Thank you for your patience during this important infrastructure work that keeps our historic streets safe and accessible for everyone.
“As we face what is expected to be a hot and exciting summer, join us for the Festa do Divino Espírito Santo, the cherished Portuguese celebration running June 13–15 in King’s Square. Nationally, we observe Bermuda’s National Heroes Day on Monday, June 16 – a meaningful time to reflect on the story “The Real Meaning of Brave”. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for the Cup Match Extravaganza on Friday, July 18 in King’s Square and the Soca versus Reggae Concert at Tiger Bay on August 1.”
Town Manager Candy-Lee Foggo shares her thoughts on this special season, “This time reminds us of the bravery and resilience that defines our community. From early settlers to today’s quiet heroes, we see courage in many forms – especially in times of adversity.”
The spokesperson said, “We’re proud to celebrate two outstanding team members this month. Kyle Williams-Tannock did brilliantly at the International Snooker League Tournament, earning two team wins and a runner-up finish in the Mike Mitchell Cup. Meanwhile, Eugene Simmons showed incredible determination by placing 36th in the Half Marathon Derby. Their achievements reflect the spirit of excellence we cherish in St. George’s.
“Bringing the community closer, a live webcam on Ordnance Island is now active, which provides real-time views of events like the Ducking Stool, Peppercorn Ceremony, Santa Comes to Town, and New Year’s Eve celebrations from anywhere.”
Town Manager Foggo adds, “We’re also highlighting a beautiful artistic tribute by Otto Trott, featuring a mini-documentary and painting of The Mayor at the Peppercorn Ceremony. His work, complete with thoughtful narration and visuals, honours the local traditions that make our town so special. And we spotlight Fort Victoria and Fort William, important parts of our UNESCO World Heritage Site, including fascinating stories from our rich and sometimes scandalous history.”
The spokesperson said, “Finally, we’re excited about The Wharf restaurant’s reopening and want to spotlight Councillor Allen Van Putten, whose long-standing advocacy for Bermuda’s historic architecture continues to preserve the character that makes St. George’s unique.
