Several public works projects on the West Bank of Demerara are currently at a standstill posing a severe inconvenience to commuters.
A visit by Stabroek News to the Stanleytown bridge which collapsed in November last year, showed that a temporary bridge with crusher run and large craters were still at the site, causing a traffic buildup since motorists are now forced to slow down to navigate the holes. GAICO Construction and General Services Inc was awarded that contract.
The BelleVue public road also has large holes forcing motorists to drive in the opposite lane into incoming traffic. One resident told reporters that the contractor did work on the road last month but stopped.
